Scapino or the Trickster

Two young men fall in love with two young ladies, but the perfect romance goes awry when their fathers disapprove. Enter Scapino, the rascally trickster known as the “king of con men,” who sets out to foil the parents and bring the young lovers together.

Set in Naples in the 1920s with a garden-like pool of water on the stage, the production is packed full of surprises — including clowns launching beach balls into the audience in a pre-show. In the spirit of clowning around, don’t dig too deep for philosophical meaning in the play.

“It’s a play written late in Moliere’s life; however, it’s not one like the rest of his later plays, which are biting social criticisms. It’s a real showpiece for the comedians. Come expecting to be able to get away from it all. It will just be a lot of fun.”
